About Jeffrey

Jeffrey is a Boston, Massachusetts native who has lived and worked as a teacher of guitar in the US and Europe. While living in Boston Jeffrey earned a degree in History and Art History with an interest in architecture and topography of Bavaria, and later received a degree in guitar performance from Portland State. Jeffrey has studied guitar throughout Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, and England eventually leading to a residency in Garmisch-Partenkirchen Musikschule faculty. In addition to guitar, Jeffrey also worked as a visual artist who showcased his work in exhibits through Europe.


Current Work

Jeffrey Ashton is a classical guitarist, composer and arranger located in Portland, OR. Jeffrey teaches private and class lessons for guitar throughout the city. In addition to his teaching, Jeffrey diligently revives renaissance music such as madrigals and troubadour music for guitar. Over the years Jeffrey has arranged forgotten music and revitalized it for his modern audiences.

Jeffrey’s Pedagogy

Jeffrey came from a musical family, both of his parents were vocalists and Jeffrey’s first musical experiences were as a choir boy in The Trinity Church of Boston. In the 1970’s Jeffrey moved to Frankfurt and studied classical guitar under Kurt Gudain. Between studying classical music, architecture, and history in Europe, Jeffrey also explored modern music and electric guitar while living in the US.
